CO2 Electrolysis in Integrated Artificial Photosynthesis Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Integrated artificial photosynthesis is an approach to establish optimized systems for carbon recycling by combining high-efficiency photovoltaic and CO2 electrolysis at high productivity selectivity. In contrast natural photosynthesis, the integrated system aims energy conversion efficiency from sunlight hydrocarbon products taking advantage of both in cells freedom design individual components, while learning produce high-value chemicals.

Plasmon-induced artificial photosynthesis.
We have successfully developed a plasmon-induced artificial photosynthesis system that uses a gold nanoparticle-loaded oxide semiconductor electrode to produce useful chemical energy as hydrogen and ammonia. The most important feature of this system is that both sides of a strontium titanate single-crystal substrate are used without an electrochemical apparatus. Plasmon-induced water splitting ...
متن کاملChemical approaches to artificial photosynthesis.
I n the early 1970s, the works by Fujishima and Honda (1) and Honda et al. (2) reported on the results of a now famous experiment. They showed that band gap excitation of anatase TiO2 in a photoelectrochemical cell with a Pt counter electrode and an applied bias resulted in water splitting into hydrogen and oxygen. The timing of the result was impeccable. In 1973, the Organization of the Petrol...
متن کاملBuilding Photosynthesis by Artificial Molecules
The purpose of this project is to build nanomolecular machinery for photosynthesis by use of artificial molecules. The world’s most successful molecular machinery for photosynthesis is that of green plants—the two photosystems and related protein complexes. These are composed almost exclusively from organic molecules, plus a small amount of metal elements playing important roles. Inspired by th...
متن کاملSemiconductor Nanowires for Artificial Photosynthesis
In this Perspective, we discuss current challenges in artificial photosynthesis research, with a focus on the benefits of a nanowire morphology. Matching the flux between electrocatalysts and light-absorbers, and between individual semiconducting light-absorbers, are two major issues to design economically viable devices for artificial photosynthesis. With the knowledge that natural photosynthe...
متن کاملArtificial Photosynthesis: Solar Fuels Nanomaterials
The objective of this research is an in-depth exploration of semiconductor photo-catalysts that are able to convert CO2 and H2O and sunlight to energy rich and transportable fuels, such as CH4, CH3OH and HCO2H. The main focus is on the synthesis, structure determination, physical property characterization and photocatalytic testing of different classes of semiconductor photo-catalysts, with and...
